Summary

Mt Barker is an existing urban centre in the picturesque Adelaide Hills. The 30 Year Plan for Greater Adelaide identifies growth of around 7000 new dwellings in the vicinity. Importantly, new development delivers the opportunity to create a single masterplan for 'one Mt Barker'; enhancing the historic centre around Gawler Street, and to promote new standards for lower density residential development appropriate to the 'Hills' environs.

In early 2011, the Premier, Mike Rann MP invited the Commission to facilitate an integrated approach to the design, planning and development of a future Mt Barker.

The Commission is already working with developers, design professionals, Mt Barker Council and the community to ensure that development in Mt Barker is co-ordinated, considered and reflects sustainable practice.
